 History of  St. Servatius

Ca. 1370 start of construction
       1520 completion of church
1915 loss of baroque furnishings through fire
1917 art nouveau defines the new furnishing
1928 recreation of the tower, since then it is higher and acquired an inventive
                         'shutter'.

Soon after the construction was finished, around 1520, the preaching was for Protestants in St. Servatius. The church has since then changed its religious denomination (like St. Cyriakus) several times. In 1642 it was made available to Catholics because at that time they were the minority. The bigger protestant community used the larger St. Cyriakus church as place of worship.
Duderstadt's two churches became in 1651according to the stipulation of the Westphalian Peace (1648) catholic again.
In 1808 St. Servatius church became after long years of endeavouring of the in Duderstadt living Protestants again a protestant parish church. (Decree Jérômes, Napoleon's brother, who reigned in Kassel as king of Westphalia, did all the Prussian pre-work for the handing over of the St. Servatius church.
The organ and the organ gallery are worth a special mention as well as the altar and the chancel.
