"Heinz Erhardt was a phenomenon.
Thousands of people have seen
him on stage and laughed
heartily about his comic antics.
Millions know him from radio
Television, from the
cinema or from his books.
He is the most popular
comic of the fifties and
sixties and one of the most
talented humorists of the century."

In the present of some relatives from Heinz Erhardt’s family among them the oldest daughter Grit Berthold as well as grandchildren and actor Marek Erhardt the mayor of the city of Göttingen, Wilhelm Gerhardy, re-named a place at the Weender Tor into 'Heinz-Erhardt-Platz“. In memory of the popular as well as unforgettable comic and actor a sculpture was unveiled in the presence of around 400 guests. It depicts Heinz Ehrhardt in his role as a traffic policeman Eberhard Dobermann.

Of course it was matter of honour that the police adopted this place and the sculpture. This was done by the 1st Polizeikommissariat of the Polizeiinspektion Göttingen. Within the small ceremonial act the Göttinger police choir under the direction of the musical boss Klaus Klapproth entertained the guests. The director of the 1st Polizeikommissariat, Polizeioberrat Bernd Kittelmann, emphasised in his speech that his office 'loved' to have taken on the adoption. In addition Kittelmann proposed the cinema movie  'Natürlich die Autofahrer' should become the educational film for the police.

The Polizeikommissar Detlef Wallbach developed in a way to the 'star' of the event . He is a member of the RLFZ of the PI Göttingen and appeared in a original uniform of the fifties as a double for the leading actor Heinz Erhard in the role of the policeman  Eberhard Dobermann. The similarity in appearance and posture are striking. Promptly Wallbach had to pose as a model for the numerous press photographs and a film team. Many of the guests had also taken their photo with him. By the way: For this performance Wallbach sacrificed his beard. A special thanks goes to the Polizeimuseum Hannover, which provided the police uniform.
