Göttingen Game Author Meeting

"18 years ago the then totally unknown dental technician Klaus Teuber travelled to Göttingen to the Game Author Meeting with great expectations. He brought with him a draft for a new game with the working title 'Rätselmeister'. Two years later he received for this game that was published under the title 'Barbarossa' for the first time the critic's prize 'Spiel des Jahres' (Game of the Year). Latest since the 'Siedlern von Catan' he is one of the big income earners inside the author guild. Every year around 200 mostly unknown game authors come to the Göttinger Stadthalle as did Klaus Teuber then; all with the hope to follow in Teuber's footsteps. Every year many game ideas are bought by the German game publisher. "

The playful mega event takes place every year in Göttingen in June. The broad audience has the option to test game innovations and is able to also buy some of those. Interested parties can take a look behind the curtains of game development. Around 300 unique games are being presented to either reach the shopping aisles or disappear forever.

Apart from the many innovations that can be seen the author prizes are in the foreground of this year's meeting. All important awards for the game authors are being bestowed during the author meeting in Göttingen. As in the last year more than 30 juniors present their game ideas in Göttingen for the first time. For them the jury 'Spiel des Jahres' offers the "Förderpreis für junge Autoren", this is remunerated with 2500 Euros. From this competition many successful games arose among them the Game of the Year 1997 'Mississippi Queen'.

The city of Göttingen awards also for the eight time the 'INNO-SPATZ' for especially innovative achievements in the game area. It is the most important non-material honour for game authors, connected to it is prize money of 500 Euros.
