Heinrich the lion is probably the founder of the Jakobi church (around 1190). Todays gothic hall church was build between 1341 - 1400. Inside there is still the original high altar, whose master is unknown. The closed altar shows szenes from the life of the holy Jacobus (t.n), opened once the childhood and the tale of woe Jesu and opened whole, the crowning of Marie, apostles and saints as well as base zone prophetes.

The choir and the southern aisle got a coloured vetrification during the renovation in 1901. In 1997/98 the northern aisle obtained a coloured window, after the drawings by Johannes Schreiter. In 1964/66 a big organ with 58 tunes in five works was build by the Göttinger Organ builder Paul Ott.
The Jacobi church was renovated by the company Gebr. Lechte Günther.
